BTW: I'm not doing this at the same time. Laptop loads about 8 pages of images in about a 10th the time it takes the server to loaded the first page. As a test, I've been going to and doing an image. In regard to the network speed, I haven't measured it explicitly, but my laptop running win xp seems to load the same web page about 80 times faster than the server and it's 3.5 yrs old (ie old hardware).

Lastly I tried loading msconfig disabling all the startup and non microsoft services (of which there are none since it is a clean install and the only thing I've installed is the latest driver. I've tried setting the speed negotiation from auto to 100 Mb Full Duplex. The machine is connected to a 100 Mb switch/adsl 2+ modem admittedly old. My hard drives are setup as raid 0 (striping) across two 7200 rpm 1.5 TB drives connected on Sata 3 controllers. I then suspected it was some remnant of what I had previously installed, so I reformatted the disk and installed win 2k8 r2 again with no success.
